Large Kazakh thermoelectric power plant Ekibastuz GRES-1 increased net profit by 12.3 percent to 13.706 billion tenge ($92.64 million) in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period of 2011, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported referring to the company.
The company's revenue increased by 13.8 percent in the reporting period to 21.7 billion tenge ($146.67 million), gross profit increased by 13.1 percent to 14.7 billion tenge ($99.36 million).
In January-March 2012 Ekibastuz GRES-1 produced 4.173 billion kWh of electricity (11 percent increase compared to the same period of 2012.
The increase in electricity production resulted from increase in electricity consumed by industrial enterprises.
Ekibastuz GRES-1 LLP is a thermoelectric power station of condensation type, performing production and distribution of an electric power with the established capacity of 4000MW. The basic fuel material of the plant is a black coal from Ekibastuz deposits. About 20 percent of the electric power produced by the plant is being supplied to Russia; the rest part is distributed at Kazakhstan's power market.
The company is owned by Kazakh Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna and Kazakhmys group on an equal footing.
