Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh said the government may decide to introduce gasoline rationing.
I still cannot say anything (about gasoline rationing), but it may be revived,” Zangeneh told reporters in Tehran on September 24, IRNA reported.
Back in August, Iranian deputy oil minister Alireza Sadeghabadi had said the government and parliament have made no decision to introduce gasoline rationing.
He further stressed that the government does not lack refining capacity and is facing no problem in supplying and distributing gasoline to fuel stations.
Ahead of new US sanctions against Tehran scheduled to kick in on Nov. 4, there are reports that rationing would be implemented.
US President Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in May and Washington reimposed its first round of sanctions on Tehran on August 4. The second round will target Iran's oil exports in November.
