Turkish companies are interested in participating in renewable energy projects in the territories of Azerbaijan, previously liberated from Armenian occupation, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy.
The minister made the statement at the 4th Energy and Natural Resources Summit organized by Turkuvaz Media Group and supported by the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
In the course of the event, Shahbazov spoke about the planned projects in the energy sector, including cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources (RES).
“The liberated territories of Azerbaijan have been declared by the president of the country a zone of ‘green energy', mainly renewable energy sources will be used there - water, sun and wind. Turkish companies are also interested in participating in renewable energy projects in the liberated territories. In particular, there is possibility of cooperation on projects for the construction of wind farms in Lachin and Kalbajar. Cooperation with Turkish companies in the process of turning Karabakh into a zone of ‘green energy' can be not only attractive, but also become a symbol of our solidarity,” Shahbazov said.
“Thanks to the determination of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, our independent energy policy, which began with the signing of the ‘Contract of the Century’ in 1994 and implemented jointly with Turkey, provided access to the Eurasian space for such global energy communication projects as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum, Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), Southern Gas Corridor (SGC),” he noted.
"These projects, which are the product of joint political will, ensure the energy security of Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries," Shahbazov said.
"Azerbaijan's investments in Turkey have grown to $18.3 billion, and the volume of Turkey's investments in Azerbaijan - up to $13 billion," he added.
