By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Hydrocarbon production by Italian Eni company in Q3 2021 stood at 1.69 million boe/d, up by 1.2 percent net of price effects compared to the same period of 2020 and up by 6 percent vs. Q2 2021 (1.66 million boe/d in the nine months of 2021; down by 4 percent), Trend reports with reference to the company.
Growth was fueled by continuing production ramp-up at the giant Zohr and Merakes gas fields respectively in Egypt and Indonesia, with the latter achieving first gas the last April.
In the nine months of 2021, production fell compared to the nine months 2020 due to greater maintenance activity (in Norway, Italy and the UK), lower activity in Nigeria and mature fields decline. Start-ups and ramp-ups added 64 kboe/d (on average in the nine months) mainly due to Merakes in Indonesia, Berkine in Algeria, the Mahani gas project in the Sharjah Emirate (UAE), as well as the tiein of satellite discoveries Cuica and Cabaca North in the 15/06 Block, offshore Angola.
The infrastructure-led exploration (ILX) campaign with short time-to-market has successfully progressed at Block 15/06 in Angola (Eni operator w.i. 36.84 percent), with the start-up in September of the Cabaca North satellite discovery following the one of Cuica in July, so to extend the production plateau and the residual useful life of the FPSO "Armada Olombendo" which operates the Block.
In the nine months 2021, over 600 mmboe of explorative resources were discovered as part of an exploration strategy soundly balanced between near-field/ILX activities and selected initiatives in high-risk/high-rewards plays.
