SOCAR’s STAR Refinery reduces crude oil imports

The STAR oil refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey imported 791,103 tons of crude oil in September 2021 as compared to 930,732 tons in the same period of 2020 (15 percent increase), Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

The refinery also imported 29,090 tons of jet fuel.

The EPDK report shows that the STAR refinery produced 521,109 tons of gasoline, 315,06 tons of high-sulfur fuel oil, 45,750 tons of jet fuel, 105,876 tons of other products, 19,174 tons of liquefied petroleum gas, 128,398 tons of naphtha, 56,389 tons of petroleum coke, 25,111 tons of refinery gas and 1,742 tons of diesel fuel with a high sulfur content.

Star Refinery, with investment value of $6.3 billion came on stream in October 2018. Around $3.3 billion of the project’s cost was covered by loans. The total investment in Star Refinery is expected to stand at $7 billion.

The annual processing capacity of Star Refinery is 10 million tons. It meets around 25 percent of Turkey’s refined oil products. The refinery is able to process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
