BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. Iran’s Hormozgan Province will become a hub in the country for refining of hydrocarbon products in the coming years, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said, Trend reports referring to Shana News Agency.

He made the remark at online event in Tehran dedicated to the launch of a gas pipeline from Hormozgan Province to Kish Island on August 22, 2022.

Owji noted that during the 1-year activity of the current government in Iran (since August 2021), new projects worth about $24 billion have been prepared in Hormozgan Province and under the mentioned projects, related work has been started.

“Of these, the construction of ‘Morvarid Mokran’ oil refinery and ‘Shahid Ghasem Soleimani’ petrochemical refinery can be cited as an example,” he added.

According to the minister, in total, about $80 billion worth of agreements and contracts were signed in Iran's oil, gas and petrochemical sectors over the past 1 year. In the near future, new contracts will also be signed in Iran’s petrochemical sector.

On August 22, a 127-kilometer gas pipeline from Iran’s Hormozgan Province to Kish Island was launched. A total of $350 million has been spent on the laying of the mentioned gas pipeline, and 28 million cubic meters of gas can be transported daily via the pipeline.
