BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 16

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Some 48 million lari (about $15 million) will be spent on a water supply project for the Gudauri ski resort, Trend reports via the United Water Supply Company.

The project is being implemented with the participation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The project envisages complete change of the old sewer networks, replace the purification systems, to drill new wells and build a water reservoir. In general, the project will lay up to 34 kilometers of the sewerage network and up to three kilometers of the water supply network.

All this will help solve the water supply problems that the resort area faces in the high season.

“Thanks to these projects, modern standards of drinking water and sewerage infrastructure should appear in Gudauri and nearby villages. Upon completion of the work, the resort area will be supplied with round-the-clock water supply and a single sewerage network,” said director of the United Water Supply Company Giga Mandariathe.

Due to the drought at the beginning of the 2019-2020 winter season, the largest winter resort in Georgia faced problems with water supply. Tourists who were not ready to put up with the inconvenience left the resort. The hotel owners suffered serious losses.

For some time, water was delivered to Gudauri using water carriers. It took the relevant services more than a week to fully resume the water supply.
