Communication Services Increases three-fold in Nakhchivan AR of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 March / corr. Trend S. Babayeva/ The communication services worth AZN1.3mln were offered in January in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (AR) which is 29% more than the same period of 2007. The private companies accounted for AZN1.05mln or 78% of the services, the Permanent Representation of the Nakhchivan AR in Baku said on 11 March.

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of the Nakhchivan AR offered services worth of AZN297, 600 which is 40.8% more than January of 2007.

Every 100 family accounts for 55 telephone sets in the Nakhchivan AR. Every three person accounts for one mobile phone while there are 110,000 telephone sets and three GSM operators in Azerbaijan.

The Autonomous Republic is located in the west of Azerbaijan. It borders on Armenia in the west and on Turkey and Iran in the south. The area of the autonomy is 5,500 sq.m with a population of over 360,000. The capital city is Nakhchivan City.
