Trend:
Iran's membership in the Council for Rail Transport of the Commonwealth Member States(CIS) would develop railway cooperation with neighboring countries and improve transit, said Managing Director of Iran Railway Company.
"Iran had reached an important milestone last year and became a permanent member in the Council for Rail Transport of the Commonwealth Member States (CIS)," said Saeed Rasouli, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Iranian wagons will have the possibility to transit cargo through Commonwealth Member States (CIS)," he said.
"Iran's cargo transportation has been reduced in the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) due to coronavirus pandemic," Rasouli added.
"Iran has signed a protocol with four railways in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey last year to transport cargo from China to Sarakhs and Inche Brun border in Turkmenistan and transport Chinese cargo via Razi border to Turkey and then to Europe," he stated.
"Iran had positive changes in international transportation and working with private companies during recent years. The private companies have produced wagons and can also attract investment," Rasouli said.
"Railway development would have a positive impact on economy, travel, and cargo transportation which could be very profitable," he added.
