A total of 556.8 million passengers were transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in May 2021, which is 73.4 percent more than in May 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

In turn, the volume of passengers transported over five months of 2021 amounted to 2.3 billion people, which is 60.2 percent less year-on-year compared to 5.9 billion over the same period of last year.

Thus, the majority of the passengers were transported to Kazakhstan’s Almaty city. The number of passengers transported in the city amounted to 151.7 million people in May and 648.8 million people over five months of 2021, which is 2.2 times more and 49.9 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.

Almaty city is followed by the Kostanay region with 54.5 million people transported in May 2021 (an increase of 89.8 percent compared to May 2020). The number of passengers transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 220.2 million people, which compared to 485.2 million during the same period last year, indicates a 54.6-percent decrease.

Pavlodar region takes third place country-wide by the passengers transported in May 2021 (45.7 million people, up by 42.7 percent). The number of passengers transported in the region over the period from January through May 2021 amounted to 201.9 million, which is 41.7 percent less than during the same period last year (346.2 million people).

The least passenger volume was recorded in the Mangystau region. The transported passenger volume stood at 2.3 million in May 2021, which is 2.8 times more than in May 2020. The volume of passengers transported over five months of 2021 was 10.5 million, which is 51.3 percent less year-on-year.
