The volume of cargo processed in Georgian seaports is down by 6.7 percent this year amounting to 5.5 million tons, Trend reports via the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
According to the data, the main reason for the reduction is the decline of cargo flows by 18.5 percent in Porti Port, as Poti Port has processed a total of 2.2 million tons of cargo from January through April.
However, cargo turnover is increasing in Batumi Port unlike Poti Port.
Cargo Turnover by Georgian Ports in 4 months of 2021:
• Poti Port - 2.2 million tons, decrease of 18.5 percent;
• Supsa Marine Terminal - 1.5 million tons, unchanged from the previous year;
• Batumi Seaport - 1.2 million tons, increase of 9 percent;
• Kulevi Terminal - 0.6 million tons, unchanged compared to the previous year.
A total of 128,000 containers were shipped by Georgian Sea Ports, which was down by 31 percent year-on-year.
Georgian Railway has transported 4 million tons of cargo this year, which is 11 percent more compared to 2020.
