Kazakhstan, China agree on further dev't of railway transport corridors

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 8. Kazakhstan and China have agreed on the further development of railway transport corridors from China to Europe in transit through the territory of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

The corresponding agreement was reached during a meeting between the management of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, a national company) and the Ministry of Transport of China.

The parties exchanged views and discussed issues of further development of cooperation in the field of transport logistics and prospects for international transport corridors.

The great work done by the railways of the two countries to modernize border railway stations and approaches to them to increase capacity was also noted.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation in the transport sector.

To note, last year, rail transport between countries achieved a record 22 percent increase over the previous year (more than 28 million tons). Over the 5 months of this year, this figure increased by 12.4 percent, including exports from Kazakhstan to China, which increased by 1 million tons to 5.7 million tons.

Meanwhile, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China amounted to $6.27 billion from January through March 2024. This volume increased by 6.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023 ($5.9 billion).

At the same time, exports to China for the above period amounted to $3.18 billion, while imports from China amounted to $3.09 billion.
