DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 20. The value of industrial production manufactured in Tajik Sughd Free Economic Zone (FEZ) reached 352.9 million somoni ($32.1 million) in 2023, Muhammad Muhammadzoda, the head of the FEZ administration, said during the press conference, Trend reports.
He noted that this marks an increase of more than 10.2 million somoni ($930,212) compared to 2022. Muhammadzoda also mentioned that last year, 6 new subjects were registered in Sughd FEZ, bringing the total number of subjects to 35. Among them, 22 subjects are engaged in manufacturing, construction, services, and trade activities.
Furthermore, he said that the value of construction works and services in the FEZ last year amounted to 23.5 million somoni ($2.1 million), which is 5.8 times higher than in 2022. In 2023, subjects of the Sughd FEZ exported their products to countries such as Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Türkiye, Russia, and Afghanistan.
The Sughd FEZ was established in 2009 as a delimited territory of Khujand city with a special legal status and favorable economic conditions for both domestic and foreign entrepreneurs. The FEZ, an industrial-innovative type zone spanning a total land area of 320 hectares, was created for a period of 50 years.
