196 Iranians sick with swine flu

A total of 196 people in Iran has been so far diagnosed with H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu, Health Ministry official Mohammad Mahdi Gouya said here on Wednesday, reported MEHR News Agency.

The virus has infected 52 Iranians over the past four days, Gouya warned.

The cumulative number of cases infected with H1N1 virus rose from the 144 reported on August 8 by the ministry's officials.

According to Gouya, Hajj pilgrims and those who were in touch with them account for 53% of the patients, "Their overall health is good".

Iran's first swine flu case was a 16-year-old Iranian-American boy, who tested positive for the virus upon his arrival in Tehran on June 22.
