Caretaker of Iran's Foreign Ministry Ali-Akbar Salehi voiced Tehran's readiness Tuesday to help materialize Muslim women's aspirations, IRNA reported.
He made the remarks in an address to the closing ceremony of the third ministerial meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on women affairs.
The three-day gathering was held here with the participation of representatives from a number of OIC member states including Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Maldives, Mali, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Republic and Bangladesh.
Participants of the meeting discussed the magnificent role played by women in Islamic societies as well as further promotion of women's constructive participation in various social, economic, political and cultural activities.
'Iran's Foreign Ministry and its affiliated bodies are ready to cooperate with elite women in Islamic states,' Salehi said.
He added that promotion of women's status in the society was one of the major goals of Iran's Islamic Revolution.
Criticizing the way women were treated in the West, Salehi said Western societies were seeking to underestimate the role of women in various fields, particularly in the field of scientific and technological activities.
Stressing that morality was the base of women's presence in an Islamic society, Salehi expressed hope that Muslim women would further promote their status and also increase their cooperation with women in other societies.
