A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution says there is hope for the upcoming talks between Iran and the P5+1 if the West does not try to illegally impose its views on Tehran, Press TV reported.
"If the members of the P5+1 (Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany) have good intentions, are committed to international law and do not try to illegally impose their views, there is hope for the Baghdad talks," Ali Akbar Velayati said on Saturday.
"Iran will not tolerate any pressure," Velayati said, adding that Tehran would decide independently about its nuclear energy program.
The Iranian official added that Tehran would conduct the negotiations within the framework of international regulations and Iran's law.
The latest round of the talks between Iran and the P5+1 was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14. Both sides hailed the discussions as constructive.
The next meeting will be held on May 23 in Iraq's capital, Baghdad.
Referring to Iran's choice of location for the next round of talks, Velayati said the gesture proves that the government of Nouri al-Maliki is capable of providing security in Iraq after the withdrawal of American forces.
