Some 4.5 million liters of smuggled fuel seized in Iran

Some 4.5 million liters of smuggled fuel has been seized in Iran during the past two months, a border security guard official stated.

The Mehr News Agency quoted Amir-Ahmad Geravand as saying that around 2,700 kilograms of narcotics has also been seized during the past 48 hours.

He also said that 150,000 liters of smuggled fuel has been seized during the mentioned period of time.

The commander of the National Border Police said on February 24 that the police plan to crack down on the smuggling of goods into the country in the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 20), which has been named the year of national production.

Brigadier General Hossein Zolfaqari also said that the border police plan to step up efforts to improve the security of border areas this year.

Iranian Border Guards have seized 1.5 million various types of petroleum related products from January 21 to February 21, the Mehr News Agency quoted the deputy Iranian border guards chief Gen.Abbas Ataei as saying.

He said that Iran has sized several vehicles, boats and tankers smuggling the fuel.

Ataei added Iranian border forces had detained 25 people who crossed the borders illegally during the aforementioned period.

"We have 20 cases where arms had to be used resulting in the deaths of nine and arrests of four people during this time," he added.
