(zaman.com) - Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has reassured the Turkish government in preventing the terrorist attacks of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) by way of northern Iraq.

In a press conference on Wednesday in Baghdad, Talabani said he assured Turkey that Iraqi government was determined to put an end to the attacks of armed groups that aimed attacks on neighboring countries, adding that he was "dealing with the issue personally."

"Iraq will 'do its best' to prevent the PKK from organizing attacks on Turkey from the Iraqi territories," Talabani remarked, reports Trend.

He also stated that he ordered the closure of the PKK offices in Iraq.

Talabani went on to say that a meeting on the issue will be held with the participation of Iraqi, US and Kurdish officials; however, he did not make clear when such a meeting would be held.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday, before his departure for Malaysia to attend the OIC meeting, that Iraqi government had started to take steps towards the prevention of PKK attacks.
