Over the current Iranian calendar year the country has registered a record in producing wheat as its output has, so far, hit 14 million tons since March 20.

Ali Qanbari, Chairman of the Governmental Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC), has said that the country’s wheat output has surpassed the level of its domestic consumption. Therefore the officials have come up with an idea to export 3 million tons of wheat, Fars news agency reported.

Ali Qanbari added that his organization for exporting wheat needs to get the government’s permission which will be announced within the next 10 days.

According to the official the announced amount of the wheat will be offered through a tender at the international prices.

Wheat is the main crop cultivated in Iran, accounting for almost 70 percent of aggregate cereal production.

Irrigated wheat covers almost one-third of the total sown area.
