Georgia asks the European Union to evaluate the Russian side's actions on arrangement of an administrative border with Tskhinvali region of Georgia. According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, this question was raised by Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani at the meeting with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Philippe Lefort.
"Zalkaliani pointed that these actions of the Russian side were the violation of sovereignty, territorial integrity of Georgia, principles of international law and the ceasefire agreement between Georgia and Russia as of August 12, 2008," the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
According to Tbilisi's information, the Russian side restored arrangement of the so-called border between Georgia and South Ossetia. Some houses, garden plots, cemeteries and pastures fall under the control of the territory of Tskhinvali.
While on a visit in Tbilisi last week Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule promised that the actions in the separatist regions' territories would be discussed during a meeting of the EU-Russian commission.
Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
