Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili met with his Latvian counterpart Solvita Aboltina on March 31.

"The relations between the two countries were discussed," Usupashvili said at a joint press conference.

The sides stressed satisfaction that the countries successfully cooperate and not only at the level of the parliaments.

"We stressed that the democratic world, Europe must be better prepared for the challenges that we face in Ukraine," he said. "Georgia and Latvia are ready to make their contribution to collective security. The Latvian colleague offered to share with the experience of realizing the EU requirements after the signing of the association agreement."

Usupashvili also recalled the Georgian delegation's visit to Riga.

"Our meetings were held in a friendly atmosphere that period," he added. "Chairperson of the Sejm assured us of intensifying relations and that if we have difficulties after the Vilnius summit, Latvia will help Georgia. Today Solvita Aboltina is with us as a true friend."
