Syria's election for a new parliament is not part of a comprehensive and inclusive political dialogue for a democratic future of the country, the United Nations said Monday, dpa reported.
"These elections are not taking place within that framework," said Martin Nesirky, spokesman for UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. "Moreover, a democratic process cannot be successful while violence is still ongoing."
Nesirky said Syria should end the violence "in all its forms" so international envoy Kofi Annan can implement a six-point plan, which includes a ceasefire and talks for a multi-party political system in the country.
