( ForUm ) - Thomas Hammarberg, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe calls upon Ukraine to ensure CCU independence.
Hammarberg states that all aspects of legal system, including the Constitutional Court, should be absolutely removed from politicians.
According to Hammarderg, there are several mechanisms which can protect independence of this organ: to change the system of judges' appointment and term of being in office.
"Also, all politicians should respect independence of the court. It is absolutely important. Otherwise, the Constitutional Court will be used as the political means for this or that political group," the commissioner of the Council of Europe said.
