Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola praised the performance of his players after watching their incredible 6-2 win over Real Madrid on Madrid's home ground, Xinhua reported.
Two goals each from Leo Messi and Thierry Henry and goals from Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol gave Barcelonaa triumph that virtually assures the Spanish Primera Liga title.
Barcelona is now seven points ahead of Real Madrid and can win the title next weekend with a win at home to Villarreal if Madrid fails to win in Valencia.
Guardiola's side was outstanding in the Santiago Bernabeu and totally outplayed Real Madrid all game. It was probably the highlight of a season that has seen Barcelona score 100 goals in 34 games, while conceding just 28.
"I think that all season we have been true to a style of play and we came here with the aim of winning the game. It is a nice night to come to this lovely ground and to play as well as we have done," said Guardiola on the Catalan TV station TV3 after the game.
"We knew that if we won here, we would have the title three quarters won. We should have won the title already, but today we have taken a huge step to being named champions."
"It is one of the happiest days of my life," he added.
Guardiola is in his first season as Barcelona coach and he gave all the merit for the result to his players.
"They are the ones who put the ideas into practice. It is the players who make the tactics possible and with this squad everything is easy," he said, before also showing his sporting character in praising Real Madrid.
"Their players never gave up and I want to congratulate Madrid," said Guardiola.
