At least 14 people were killed by several gunmen at a football match in the northern Honduran city of San Pedro Sula, Xinhua reported.

The attackers, armed with assault rifles, drove into the football field and opened fire, authorities said.

Ten people were shot dead at point-blank range and four died on the way to hospital, said Deputy Security Minister Armando Calidonio.

Calidonio said that many others were injured during the shooting spree and some of them were in critical condition now, but did not give a specific number of injuries.

The minister said the motive of the bloodbath was not clear yet.

Honduras is plagued by gang violence and organized crime.

Last month, a group of gunmen shot dead at least 15 people in a small shoe factory also in San Pedro Sula.
