OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights not to Influence Azerbaijani Opposition’s Decision to Boycott Elections: Expert

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 September/ Trend , corr R. Novruzov/ OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights will not influence decision of the political parties of Azerbaijan to boycott elections.

"We are not going to influence decision of opposition parties of Azerbaijan to boycott elections. It is up to them to take part in elections or not," Rasto Kuzel, expert of the organization for media said to Trend .

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October.

On 5 September, parties included in Azadlig bloc the (the Popular Front Party, the Liberal Party and the Citizen and Development), the Musavat Party and the Public Forum 'For Azerbaijan' signed a joint statement on recognition of the presidential elections to be held on 15 October as illegitimate. Government to be formed after the presidential elections, are announced as illegitimate in the statement.

The mission will not influence line of conduct of the parties. "The mission holds meeting with opposition and listens their reasons which will be reflected in the report," he said.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October. A total of seven candidates will take part in the elections including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of Ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Igbal Agazade, chairman of opposition Umid (Hope) Party, Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party, Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party, Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli. Election campaign will start on 17 September and last 28 days.
