Iranian Expediency Council Deprived from Supervision Power over Fulfillment of Important Strategic Document

Iran, Tehran, 8 November / Trend corr. A.Namdari / Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei took off supervision power from the Expediency Council of the country over fulfillment of the Document on development perspectives of Iran, said Head of the Iranian Expediency Council Ali Akbar Hashemi- Rafsanjani said on 8 November.

"The Document on development perspectives" is a strategic document, which envisages development plan of Iran. The Expediency Council confirmed this document and commissioned its fulfillment to the government. The document covers 20 years by 2025.

The Expediency Council was instructed to supervise over fulfillment of the document after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's election in Iran in 2005.

According to Rafsanjani, control at request of Khamenei over this document was conducted unseriously.

"After the presidential elections in 2005, Khamenei said to me that the government is new and he gave promise, which was inadequate to the Document on development perspectives, during the pre-election campaign. Therefore, he advised not to hold serious supervision over fulfillment of the document," Rafsanjani said.

First, representatives of the government and the parliament should actively to take part in adoption of laws, whose shortages they should correct, for full supervision over fulfillment of the document, Rafsanjani said.

The state bodies should develop annual reports on conformity of their activity with the Document on development perspectives, he said.

Rafsanjani refused to publicize reasons of removal of supervision power from the Expediency Council over fulfillment of the document.
