Deputy Georgian Foreign Minister Alexander Nalbandov said two OSCE monitors were released after being taken hostage by South Ossetian separatists.

"This is the latest provocation by the Tskhinvali puppet government," Nalbandov said at a special briefing.

"This time the victims were OSCE monitors who will be in the conflict zone until Feb. 19 based on their mandate," Nalbandov said.

Russia began the provocation by refusing to prolong the OSCE mandate in Georgia on Dec. 28, he said.

"Today was an attempt to threaten the monitors," Nalbandov added.

The deputy minister said such provocation will continue until Russia fulfills the 6-point Medvedev-Sarkozy ceasefire agreement.
