The Georgian Interior Ministry will consider the opposition's list of people, arrested for their political views. The meeting between leaders of opposition parties and Georgian Interior Minister, Vano Merabishvili agreed upon this on Aug.12.
The meeting was constructive and this week will test the desire of the authorities and the opposition to cooperate, leader of "Our Georgia - Free Democrats" party, Irakly Alasaniya said after the meeting.
Merabishvili will reply to every suspicious case, Alasaniya said. It would be "acid test" for the authorities to determine how much they are willing to cooperate and democratize society.
"We also agreed to establish a round-the-clock communications to avoid new arrests of our supporters for political reasons," Alasaniya said.
The main objective is to dismantle the system that evolves political prisoners. "We propose to dismantle the system and this proposal was well accepted by the minister," Leader of the Republican Party, David Usupashvili, said.
