UN High Commissioner for Refugees: Azerbaijan becomes attractive country for foreigners

Azerbaijan has become an attractive country for foreigners, UNHCR regional representative Guillermo Bettocchi said.
Today head of the Azerbaijani State Migration Service Arzu Rahimov met with the delegation headed by Guillermo Bettocchi.
Approving the establishment of relations with foreigners visiting Azerbaijan for various purposes in terms of national legislation, Betochchi said that the attention to those who request refugee status is also important.
Head of the Service Ragimov said that the issues to determine the refugee status are regulated at a high level in this service.
The reforms, successfully conducted over recent years in the socio-economic sphere of Azerbaijan, have led to the rapid development of our country and increase the number of foreigners, " Rahimov said.
The country has broad opportunities to implement the state policy providing for the improvement of legislation on migration in accordance with international standards and modern requirements, ensuring of a stable socio-economic and demographic development, rational utilization of labor resources and the prevention of illegal migration, he said.
The current cooperation between the Service and the UNHCR office in Azerbaijan will develop in future more intensively, " he said.
