Georgia's possible NATO membership was discussed at a meeting in Washington this week by U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Alexander Vershbow and Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, European Integration Minister Giorgi Baramidze. Baramidze told reporters after the meeting that the sides discussed specific questions about Georgia's integration into NATO.
He did not go into details about the meeting. However, his visit to the United States, Baramidze said Georgia is interested in Washington's position on Georgia's accession into the alliance.
"Meeting with Vershbow is very important, as he is actively engaged in the issues of NATO enlargement, as well as personally ensures Georgia's accession into the alliance," he said.
Baramidze concluded his weeklong visit to the United States.
He stressed that the most important event during his trip was his meeting in Senate where a document was presented in support of Georgia.
The document will be adopted by late 2010 or early next year.
