BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan have been held under international rules, the Malaysian parliamentary representative Nur Jazlan Mohamed told reporters at a press conference, Trend reports.
“This is a new opportunity for me to witness the democratic process in Azerbaijan. This is the second time I am observing the elections in Azerbaijan, the first time I observed the presidential elections. I would like to note that all the elections were well organized,” he said.
The Malaysian representative mentioned that the delegation hit the road and checked out different polling stations in Baku during the election.
“I had the opportunity to see how the polling stations worked. People freely chose candidates. I also want to emphasize that the election process was conducted without violations,” he added.
To note, extraordinary parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan on September 1.
According to preliminary data, voter turnout at the elections amounted to 37.27 percent. The number of voters casting their ballots amounted to 2,196,771. A total of 5,895 polling stations submitted their protocols to the CEC.
A total of 112,749 domestic observers were registered to observe the election. More than 65,000 of them were representatives of political parties.
The number of registered international observers was 598, representing 51 organizations, in 69 countries.
Out of 990 registered candidates in the parliamentary elections, 305 are representatives of 25 political parties. Whereas 371 candidates are members of political parties, they were not nominated by the parties to which they belong. A total of 676 candidates have political party affiliation.
