BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received Algeria's newly appointed Ambassador Zakia Ighil to discuss cooperation between the countries, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Trend.

The meeting also reviewed the prospects for developing the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Algeria, as well as regional and global issues.

"Bayramov warmly congratulated Ighil on her appointment and wished her success in her diplomatic mission. He noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, emphasizing that mutual visits and a robust political dialogue have played a significant role in advancing cooperation over the years.

The importance of utilizing the mechanism of political consultations across various areas was highlighted, including the development of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy security, and humanitarian efforts.

The significance of continuing mutual support and cooperation within regional and international organizations, particularly the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement, was also stressed.

Bayramov briefed the Algerian side on the current regional situation following the 2020 Second Karabakh War, the realities and challenges of the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the liberated territories, and the ongoing normalization and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

He expressed gratitude to Algeria for its support of international law, particularly regarding Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty during and after the former conflict.
