BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 20. The Western Azerbaijan Community denounced a September 19 Swiss Federal Assembly request headed by Erich Vontobel that made prejudiced and aggressive statements against Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

"This initiative makes unfounded accusations against Azerbaijan and demonstrates a biased position towards our country. The true essence of the request is revealed, in particular, by the reference to biased reports by the pro-Armenian and corrupt Luis Moreno Ocampo.

Swiss MPs have never expressed concern about the crimes committed by Armenia against Azerbaijanis, including the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis from its territory, the occupation of Azerbaijani territories for 30 years, the expulsion of another 800 thousand Azerbaijanis from their native lands and the violation of the right of these persons to return. The silence about the gross violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis and the deliberate destruction of the Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia, as well as in the former occupied territories, clearly demonstrates the biased position of Swiss parliamentarians.

This initiative of Swiss MPs, based on distorted information, undermines peace and stability in the region and serves to fuel ethnic conflicts. We strongly condemn such initiatives, as they allow racial discrimination and are directed against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as against peace.

We, as the Western Azerbaijan Community, call on the members of the Swiss Federal Assembly to abandon biased and unfair initiatives, recognize the right of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to return to their native lands, and act in this matter under the requirements of international law," the statement reads.
