The State customs Committee of Azerbaijan (SCC) plans to hold the presentation of the new Customs Code of Azerbaijan, the SCC Head Aydin Aliyev exclusively informed Trend.
According to him, the works on the initial variant of the new Customs Code of Azerbaijan have already been completed, and after several departments of the Committee get familiarized with the document, its presentation will be held.
It is planed to hold a broad presentation of the Code Project from November 13 to 15. The exact date of the presentation will be defined later, Aliyev said.
The Chairman of the Committee mentioned the possibility of signing an agreement with the U.N. Development Program for prolonging the project for modernization of the customs service, which has been realized since 1999.
According to the foreign experts, the new code will significantly affect the integration of Azerbaijan into Europe, ensure the transparency, efficiency of attracting foreign investments into the country and facilitate the customs procedures.
The works on the new code are carried out within the framework of one-year project financed by the European Commission and realized by the UNDP. The в'¬900,000 project is aimed at rendering assistance to SCC in upgrading the legislative base and bringing it into conformity with the international standards, particularly Customs Code of the European Union, and improving and realizing the development strategy of the information technologies in SCC.
The new Customs Code of Azerbaijan is planned to come into force in 2007. The first Customs Code in Azerbaijan has been adopted in 1997.
