A Press conference What Stops a Wave of Xenophobia and Extremism in Russia? has been held in Moscow.
Soyun Sadikov, Chairman of Movement We are Citizens of Russia!, lawyer Alexander Fedulov, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Movement, Alla Gerber, President of Centre Holocaust, Alexander Brod, Director of the Moscow Bureau for Human Rights spoke about a necessity on keeping international peace and concord, as well as strengthening friendship between people of Russia.
Discussing the growth of xenophobia in the country, Mr. Gerber stressed: The society that is occupied by a heavy xenophobic condition is very frightful. She also told that Holocaust Centre, Moscow Human Right Bureau prepared a program Holocaust: Memory on Prevention. The main aim of that program is to show Russian citizens heavy and tragic consequences of fascism that caused the death of ten millions of people. The project is considered fro mass media. It envisages showing video materials, prisoners of ghetto and concentration camps, as well as comments of known writers, painters, producers, scientific and creative intellectuals.
Chairman of the We are Citizens of Russia! Movement, President of the federal Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis Living in Russia- AzerRos Soyun Sadikov, said that xenophobia and extremism should be struggled within the existing legislation. In his opinion, at the same time, one cannot prohibit any manifestations, rallies, demonstrations. I am for a Russian march that would encompass all the other nations living in Russia, said Mr. Sadikov. He pointed out that Russian MPs should take measures, pass bills, increase the living standards of Russian citizens, not to be occupied with a cheap PR. He is sure that a particular attention should be paid to the youth which has been forgotten. As a result of the above-mentioned, arose the level of unemployment, lack of housing, alcoholism, drug addiction among the youth. According to him, all the above-mentioned factors are the basis for xenophobia and extremism in Russia. In addition, Mr. Sadikov said that some forces were using pure nationalism for their purposes,
and as results theses on the Russian Republic within the boundaries of the former Moscow Grand Duchy, on division of Russian Federation, etc. appeared. Therefore, first and foremost, the Russians should struggle for keeping international peace and Russian statehood and not allow provocations.
