If any individuals come out with the slogan "Freedom to Hijab" in Azerbaijan today, it does not mean that the country bans wearing the hijab, Vice Speaker Bahar Muradova told media, commenting on today's protest in front of the Education Ministry.
"Azerbaijan has a democratic society," she said. "Any person can freely express thoughts. But they must be expressed within the law."

She said law does not prohibit the wearing of the hijab.

"Azerbaijan has a decision on a single school uniform," she said. "Everyone must abide by these rules."

A group of religious individuals attempted to hold an unauthorized rally in front of the Education Ministry in Azerbaijan on Friday.

About 50 people gathered in front of the ministry as a sign of protest against the ban for schoolgirls to wear hijab.

The police prevented the rally and detained several activists.
