Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The preliminary hearing regarding the lawsuit of Ali Insanov , the former Azerbaijani Health Minister and six other individuals was held under the chairmanship of Salman Huseinov in the Azerbaijani Appeal Court.
The petition of defendants and lawyers were declined due to the decision of the Court. The Court inspection on the lawsuit is scheduled for the 3rd of July.
Agaveys Shahverdi and Togrul Babayev , the lawyers of Ali Insanov proposed a petition to close the case and to return it to the former Court for reconsideration.
The petition ordered the sentencing of the judges of the Grave Court, who made illegal decisions. They demanded to drop the arrest, as the defendant was seriously ill. The petition was raised to hold an investigation and to convene other witnesses to Court.
The lawyers proposed to convene Karam Hasanov , the chairman of the State Committee on Management of State Property and Farhad Aliyev, the former Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister to hearing as witnesses.
During the hearing, Ali Insanov demanded to convene Maleyka Abbasova , the chairman of the State Committee on Student Admission, and Eldar Ahmadov , the prosecutor, who headed the investigation group.
Insanov stated that he was subjected to torture in the 1st Isolation cell and was kept in bad conditions, in spite of the problems relating to his health.
According to Iskhan Ashurov , the judge of Alexander Umrashkin , paid a staggering AZM 4.000 towards the financial costs of the trial. Ashurov noted that the accusations against Umrashkin have not been proved, and the decision of the Court regarding his arrest should be withdrawn. The State defendant proposed to reject the petition and hold a hearing without an investigation.
Arrested in October 2005 for attempting a coup d'etat, Ali Insanov was found guilty with regards to crimes linked with corruption and he was sentenced to eleven years of imprisonment and the confiscation of his property. Currently Hasanov is detained in Bayl Investigation Isolator No. 1 of the Penal Service of Azerbaijan.
Due to his health problems, Hasanov requested that he be sent to the Medical Centre of the Penitentiary System. The medical examination confirmed that Hasanov suffered from a hernia on his back
Together with Ali Insanov , the Court sentenced Fakhraddin Abbasov, Anar Namazov and Parviz Kazimov to seven years and six months of imprisonment, Fuad Mahmudov five year testing period, Vekil Abbasov four year testing period, Akif Maharramov nine years of imprisonment, Eldar Rzayev seven years imprisonment, Haji Aliyev seven years of imprisonment (five year testing period), Shovgi Jafarov seven years of imprisonment (five year testing period), Alexander Umrashkin - three years of imprisonment.
The defendants Insanov , Abbasov, Kazimov , Namazov , Rzayev and Umrashkin did not agree with decision of the Court and lodged a complaint.
