Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 May / corr. Trend I. Khalilova/ The Azerbaijani government has stocked some AZN36mln to fully pay the debt of Turkmenistan within the development of state budget for 2008, Samir Sharifov, the minister of finance of Azerbaijan said in the parliament during the discussion on the shaping parameters of the state budget on 2 May.
According to the inter-government agreement on adjustment of debts and financial demands, Azerbaijan will pay out its $44.8mln debt to Turkmenistan. The debt appeared in 1991-1992, as a result of the purchase of the Turkmen gas. According to the Cabinet Ministers of Azerbaijan, the debt will be paid out in cash until the end of 2008 as it is impossible to pay back the debt by goods at present. However, earlier the official Baku claimed the debt to be $18mln for the purchase of Turkmen gas while Turkmenistan claimed it to be $56mln.
Turkmenistan government plans to spend the resources on the purchase of computer and multimedia equipment within the reforms in education.
