Unibank has been connected to a new money transfer system, the bank said in a message.
"The first phase of our work with the Golden Crown, the system of money transfers, started on Feb. 13," said Unibank Retail Banking Manager Rashad Mahilov. "During the first phase, Unibank will be disbursing money transferred to Azerbaijan via this system," he said.
The customers of Unibank can get money transfers in rubles and U.S. dollars thanks to the connection to the Golden Crown.
Apart from the Golden Crown, Unibank is connected to the following six money transfer systems: Western Union (since 2000), CONTACT (since 2006), Migom (since 2008), Faster (since 2007), XPmoney (since 2007) and Bistraya Pochta (since 2005)
Money transfers channeled via Unibank during 2008 amounted to USD 27.5 million.
"USD 2.5 million was sent out and USD 25 million was received so far via the money transfer systems to which our Bank is connected," Mr. Mahilov said. "Thus, the relevant turnovers of the Bank in 2008 were 66.7% higher than in 2007," he said.
The total of USD 17 million went through Unibank in outbound and in-coming money transfers during 2007.
The money transfer revenues of Unibank amounted to USD 300,000 in 2008 as against USD 180,000 in 2007.
