The Azerbaijani State Committee on Town-Planning and Architecture has launched a working group to design Great Baku regional plan, committee's Information and International Relations Department head Jahangir Gojayev said.
"The plan is called Great as previous plan of Baku covered graphic principles and city area of 22,000 hectares while capital's area totals 219,000 hectares," Gojayev said.
He said the plan is called regional as it is difficult to determine focus of Baku's development without development concept of Sumgayit, Khirdalan and Absheron region.
The committee plans to open a tender on designing the project. Gojayev said they have received 20 proposals from foreign experts. Only 6 of them will be selected.
The plan will be designed with the support of the World Bank.
"The Great Baku regional plan can be a valuable document to ensure capital's development," Gojayev said.
