Deflation continues in Azerbaijan

The prices on consumer goods and service tariffs increased 0.2 percent in April 2009 as compared to March 2009. The figure rose 6.5 percent over the first four months of 2009 as compared to the same period of last year, the State Statistics Committee said on May 15.

In April prices on food declined by 0.3 percent and on non-foods products by 0.2 percent. Tariffs on services rose by 0.1 percent.

Food products went up by 6.2 percent, non-foods by 7.2 percent and tariffs for services by 6.2 percent compared with January-April 2008.
 
In April, the base consumer price index hit 99.7 percent and 108.1 percent compared with the first four month of 2008. The index is calculated with exclusion of goods and services that are prone to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables). Prices on them are regulated by the State
