Turkish budget deficit increases

Turkey's budget deficit has increased by 63.6 percent and amounted to 5.19 billion lira in January-April 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, the Turkish Finance Ministry said today.

The state budget revenues increased by 15.5 percent and amounted to 106.5 billion lira in January-April 2012 compared to the same period of 2011.

The budget expenditures for the period increased by 17 percent and amounted to 111.5 billion lira compared to January-April 2011.

Turkey's primary state budget surplus (excluding interest expense) amounted to 16.9 billion lira in January-April 2012.

The official exchange rate is 1.7970 TRY/USD on May 16.
