By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Cargo transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway will increase to 17 million tons by 2035, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend Feb. 6.

“By 2035, up to three million passengers are expected to be transported via BTK,” the ministry said. "BTK is one of the most important transport corridors."

The official opening ceremony of the BTK railway was held in Baku Oct. 30, 2017. The BTK railway was constructed on the basis of a Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement.

The railway’s peak capacity will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At an initial stage, this figure will be one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
