As many as 1.1 trillion tenge were allocated and utilized for the construction, reconstruction and repair of roads of national significance in Kazakhstan since the launch of Nurly Zhol infrastructure development program, said Investment and Development Minister Zhenis Kassymbek, according to the Kazakh media.
Of these, 284.8 billion tenge were allocated from the national budget, 472.8 billion tenge - from the National Fund, and 336.5 billion tenge were attracted as loans from international financial institutions.
"In the road sector, the state program envisages the construction and reconstruction of 7,000 kilometers, and the repair of 10,000 kilometers of roads of national significance," Kassymbek said.
He added that 2,400 kilometers of roads of national significance were constructed and reconstructed (including 600 kilometers in 2018), and 7,500 kilometers were renovated (1,600 kilometers in 2018) at the expense of the allocated funds.
"The Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor, Astana-Temirtau, Almaty-Kapchagay, and Kokshetau-Petropavl sections are fully completed. Also, a bridge over the Irtysh River was built in Pavlodar region, which today is the largest bridge in Central Asia," Kassymbek noted.
It is worth noting that the main objectives of the Nurly Zhol program, covering 2015-2019, are creating an effective transport and logistics infrastructure, developing industrial and tourist infrastructure, increasing the affordability of housing for citizens, export support, etc.
Through the program, it is planned to ensure the growth of Kazakhstan's GDP by 15.7 percent in 2019 compared to 2014, as well as to create 395,500 jobs in 2015-2019.
