Unemployment rate in Kazakhstan hits record low over last 5 years

Labor force in Kazakhstan reached 9.2 million people at the end of the third quarter of 2018, which is an increase of 1.7 percent year-on-year, Trend reports citing Finprom.kz.

The employed population was 8.7 million people (1.8 percent more than in the same period last year).

Hired workers constituted the majority of the employed population at 6.6 million people (75.8 percent of the employed, a year-on-year growth of 3.4 percent).

Meanwhile, the number of self-employed people decreased by 2.8 percent year-on-year, from 2.2 to 2.1 million people.

By the end of September 2018, the number of unemployed in Kazakhstan reached 441,600 people (a 0.1 percent growth year-on-year). It is worth noting that the unemployment rate for this year was 4.8 percent, which is the lowest figure over the last five years.

The biggest number of the unemployed, 49,400 people, in the reported period was in the Almaty city (11.2 percent of the total unemployed). Next came the Almaty region with 48,600 people (11 percent) and the Turkistan region with 42,700 people (9.7 percent).

Meanwhile, the smallest number of the unemployed was in the North Kazakhstan Region at 14,900 people (3.4 percent of the total unemployed).
