BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.7
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia works very closely with Azerbaijan and Turkey in the field of hazelnut production, said the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Trend reports via Georgian media.
He said that in August last year, a Declaration on Strategic Cooperation was signed in Turkey between the ministers of agriculture of the three countries.
“We have decided to hold 'hazelnut festivals' regularly in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey, which are leading hazelnut producers. But for organizing a holiday there must be objective results," the minister added.
Meanwhile, a hazelnut festival was held for the first time in the Georgian city of Zugdidi on September 7. The event is planned to be organized annually.
As of September 3, 2020, 1,797 tons of hazelnuts were exported from Georgia.
In comparison, during the same period in 2019, the country exported 991 tons of hazelnuts.
In 2020, the projected volume of the hazelnut harvest in Georgia is 50,000 tons, and the projected export revenue is about $100 million. More than 30 enterprises are involved in processing the hazelnut crop. A high-quality crop is expected this year.
