By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Pharmaceuticals industry output increased by 39.8 percent over the first nine months of 2020, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development Beibut Atamkulov said, Trend reports citing the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.

Atamkulov made the statement during a government meeting held on Oct. 20, 2020.

The minister said that the increase was due to the growth of medicines and medical goods supplies within the framework of the guaranteed volume of free medical care through an SK-Pharmacy single distributor.

“Manufacturing of medicines and medical devices in Kazakhstan is carried out by 96 local enterprises. Domestic producers have concluded 88 long-term contracts for the production of 5,042 items of medicines and medical devices,” Atamkulov said.

He also noted that local ventures daily manufacture 900,000 medical masks.

“Currently, 18 million masks are in reserve. At the same time, the production capacities of the enterprises allow producing up to 1.2 million medical masks per day. Some 330,000 pairs of gloves are produced daily. There are over 7 million pairs in kept local warehouses,” Atamkulov said.

The minister also added that by November 2020 the manufacturing capacities of local ventures will be increased to 530,000 pairs of gloves a day. A total of six local companies also manufacture 504,000 protective suits a month. These capacities will be increased to 1 million suits a month.
