Volume of wheat to be purchased in Iran's Lorestan Province announced

It is projected that 200,000 tons of wheat are to be purchased from farmers in the Lorestan Province (western Iran) during the current wheat harvesting season in Iran, Director General of the Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC) branch in Lorestan Province, Hojjatollah Beyranvand said, Trend reports citing the GTC’s website.

Beyranvand noted that every year, the wheat harvesting in Lorestan Province began on May 22. However, due to climate change and reduced rainfall this year, harvesting will begin soon. At present, wheat is ready to be harvested and purchased in the southern part of the province.

“In addition, it projected that 3,500 tons of rapeseed are to be purchased in the province,” he added.

The director general emphasized that there are 44 sales centers operating on in the province.

It is forecasted that more than 9 million tons of wheat will be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2021, through March 20, 2022). The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 50,000 rials (about $1.19) for the current Iranian year.

Wheat has been planted on 6.15 million hectares of land in the current Iranian year. This is an increase of 2.3 percent compared to last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021).

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
