Export of buckwheat from Kazakhstan to be quoted

The quantitative restrictions on the export of buckwheat from the EAEU member-states are introduced to provide the population with buckwheat and stabilize domestic prices for buckwheat upon the decision of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission for a period of three months until August 31, 2021, Trend reports citing the Kazakh Ministry of Trade and Integration.

Taking into account the internal stocks of buckwheat, export contracts for the Kazakh entrepreneurs, the ability to export buckwheat within 4,200 tons is retained.

At the same time, a ban has been actually imposed on the export of buckwheat in other EAEU member-states.

Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Trade and Integration are discussing the rules for the distribution of this quota among exporters.

Some 7,500 tons of buckwheat (foreign trade code 100810000) worth $4.3 million were exported in 2020, increasing in physical terms by 5.85 percent compared to 2019 (7,100 tons in the amount of $2.6 million).

At the same time, most of it was exported to Ukraine (94 percent), small volumes to Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Poland in 2020.
